Bicycles and Transportation

Physical activity is an important element in both individual and public health. Bicycles used for transportation are a simple way to integrate transportation-related physical activity (TPA) into daily activities. Transportation infrastructure supportive of bicycle use can foster healthy behavior, decrease petroleum dependency, reduce emissions and improve resilience of multi-modal transportation systems.

Some cities have been incorporating public bicycle sharing systems into transportation plans as an affordable, flexible and individualizable mode of public transportation. As a researcher, I am interested in how the implementation of public bicycle sharing systems can affect the health of populations at a city scale.
